Brad Pitt’s rep has given a statement after a French woman fell victim to a scam that made her believe Pitt was in a relationship with her, leading her to send $850,000 to the scammers as well as take divorce from her husband to be with the actor.
The woman, named Anne, was convinced she was talking to the F1 star after the scammers sent her multiple AI generated photos of the actor in the hospital and asked for money to help with the treatment.
Now, Pitt’s rep has addressed the issue, telling Entertainment Weekly, "It’s awful that scammers take advantage of fans’ strong connection with celebrities. But this is an important reminder to not respond to unsolicited online outreach, especially from actors who have no social media presence."
Meanwhile, Anne revealed that she was first contacted by someone claiming to be Pitt’s mom. "She told me that her son needed someone like me," Anne shared.
"At first I said to myself that it was fake, that it's ridiculous," Anne told TF1 (per France 24). "But I'm not used to social media, and I didn't really understand what was happening to me."
"I was in love with the man I was chatting to,” she told Seven to Eight, per The Guardian. “He knew how to speak to a woman."
Meanwhile, Brad Pitt is dating Ines de Ramon for over a year and the duo are reportedly serious.
