Jamie Foxx reveals Leonardo DiCaprio's shocking struggle on 'Django Unchained' set

Jamie Foxx recently revealed how he and Samuel Jackson helped Leonardo DiCaprio overcome his struggle with saying racial slurs on the set of Django Unchained.

In a Vanity Fair video, the 57-year-old Foxx shared that the cast of the 2012 movie Django Unchained had to work hard to handle the tough parts of the story.

The star of Back in Action mentioned that the 55-year-old DiCaprio, who played Calvin Candie, had the most challenging time while filming.

Calling to mind those days, Foxx articulated, "The subject matter, the N-word specifically, Leo had a hard time saying the N-word. We're doing a read and Leo says [the N-word] and then he goes, 'Hey man, hey, guys cut. I just can't do this. This is not me.'"

"Samuel Jackson [then says], 'Say that s*****, m***** f*****. It's just another Tuesday, f**** them,'" he said with a laugh.

The Ray actor also joked that he gave the Titanic star some advice on playing his character, an enslaver in the movie, which DiCaprio used to improve his performance.

He explained, "I said, 'Leo, in slavery days, we would never talk to each other.' 'So I'm not your friend. I'm not Jamie Foxx. I'm, you know, I'm Django…' I said, 'You won't be able to play that character unless you really understand what slavery was about. It was tough. It was horrific. Ain't no kiki-ing with the slaves.'"

"So the next day, I see Leo. He walks in. I said, 'Leo, what's up?' L, what's up?' He [didn't] speak to me, he [was] ready. So everybody started, you know, digging in," Jamie Foxx concluded by saying.
