A video went viral last month on Pakistani social media, showing a woman verbally and physically abusing a man on a motorcycle after their vehicles collided. The clip was widely shared with the claim that the woman in the footage was the sister of Salman Akram Raja, a lawyer and politician from the opposition political party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
This claim is false.
On February 17, a 55-second video was posted by a user on X (formerly Twitter), showing a woman angrily attacking a man on a motorcycle following a traffic accident. The woman can be heard using expletives and boasting that her car was more expensive than the man’s motorcycle.
“This family is a fraud,” wrote one user. “The sister of PTI’s secretary general, Salman Akram Raja, can be seen attacking a poor man on a bike. Look at how she is abusing the man. The brother and sister are so alike.”
According to both Salman Akram Raja and a senior police officer, the woman in the video is not related to the politician in any way.
Speaking to Geo Fact Check, Raja confirmed: “She is certainly not my sister. This has nothing at all to do with me. I have only one sister, and she lives overseas.”
Geo Fact Check also spoke with Muhammad Shoaib Khan, the senior superintendent of police (operations) in Islamabad, who provided details from the police complaint. According to the FIR, the incident occurred on February 17 in Islamabad.
“The case has been registered, and it is being handled by the woman police station,” Khan explained. “So far, we have found no evidence of any political affiliation of the woman in the video.”
Verdict: The woman in the video is neither the sister of Salman Akram Raja nor related to him.
