LAHORE: There is no doubt that Imran Khan has changed the face of political rallies in Pakistan. As Imran used music as an integral part of his rallies, surely everyone understood the benefit and followed suit.
Similarly Ayyan Ali has changed the way celebrities will go to court until someone else ups the ante. Meera is the first to take cue, with the ‘men in black’ entourage to the definitive fashion statement. Albeit it seems Meera got confused and thought her day in court was a day at the derby.
Adorning a Sun Hat with a rose propped at the back, a beaming Meera strutted into the court house in Lahore for her bail hearing in the ‘double nikkah’ case. Surrounded by half a dozen lawyers in black suits she tried to recreate the way Ayyan Ali made her appearances – of course Ayyan managed to create the hype effortlessly.
Her men in black were actual bodyguards, her fashion statement also seemed borrowed but as they say, even when copying one must be smart about it.
Ayyan started the cat-walk to court wearing a burqa covering herself from head to toe. Then came the sari’s and the deep necks; when she adorned western people talked about her even more. She allegedly also dished out nearly Rs. 170,000 for a single court appearance.
Before every court hearing local fashion websites and blogs would be abuzz anticipating what Ayyan Ali would wear on her day in court.
In May this year international news outlets also took notice going as far as to printing an excerpt from the models diary which read:
"I have to face media persons and cameras while appearing in the courtroom, whereas everything inside the jail remains the same."
There is no doubt that Ayyan had everyone interested while Meera is always interested in what everyone else is up to; in her attempts to imitate she has always given her fans and critics something to talk about.
To get some insight we at Geo.Tv reached out to Huma Adnan who is a creative director at one of the trendy Pakistani fashion labels.
“I just feel the actress is having some really bad days. She reminds me of Silk Smitha who, after losing her fame, resorted to all the wrong acts. She needs a therapist badly and with the kind of dressing she has at the court, it's just another proof of her mental state. She wants to look pure by wearing all white, but sadly has made a fool of herself by adding that hat as if she's going to a derby.”
Whether Meera’s appearance in court was a hit or a miss with her fans is out of the question; her following Ayyan’s footsteps has confirmed that after political rallies, the way celebrities go to court, has changed forever.
