KARACHI: Two women were killed and three others injured during a stampede at a ration distribution ceremony in Gulshan-e-Iqbal area of Karachi on Monday.
SHO Gulshan-e-Iqbal Irfan said that two women were killed and three others injured in stampede at a ration distribution ceremony at a local marriage hall near Gulshan Chowrangi.
“The event was organized by a nearby mosque and the stampede occurred when hundreds of needy women reached there, resulting in mismanagement.”
The victims were identified as Uzma Jamal, 35, and Nusrat, 24, while the injured were Sakhi Jan 52, Iqra, 17, and Naseema, 35. The bodies and injured were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
When contacted, the organizer of the event, Saleem Ullah Khan, said that they were shocked at what happened during the event.
“Every year before Ramazan, we distribute food items to poor families in order to make sure that they also spend the holy month like all other Muslims but this time more women came and with everyone wanting to take the ration first, the incident occurred.” (PPI)
