HAMBANTOTA: Two big partnerships helped Sri Lanka set an improbable target of 311 runs for Pakistan in a bid to level the three-match One-day International series here at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.

Batting first after captain Angelo Mathews won the toss, Sri Lanka posted 310 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the allotted fifty overs on an easy wicket.

It was all due to brilliant batting display from Mathews (93), Mahela Jayawaedene (67) and Thisara Perera (65).

Jayawaedene and Mathews made together 122 for the fourth wicket and later Mathews and Perera added 87 runs for a record seventh wicket stand.

Pakistan are already leading the series 1-0 and can secure the series if they win today’s match.
