ISLAMABAD: Justice (retd) Khalil-ur-Rehman Ramday has severed a defamation notice to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan.

The notice calls on Imran Khan to apologise within 14 days over his baseless allegations pertaining to Justice (retd) Ramday’s involvement in election rigging. If the PTI chairman fails to apologise within 14 days, both criminal and civil cases will be filed against him.

In the notice, Ramday states he was in London at the time these allegations were levelled by Imran Khan and if he (Khan) does not apologise claims will be filed locally and internationally.

In August 2014, Khan had accused Justice (retd) Ramday of involvement in election rigging. The PTI chairman alleged that Justice (retd) Ramday had invited Returning Offices (ROs) to dinner where the then Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was the chief guest and expressed that Nawaz Sharif was the best option.

Khan claimed Justice (retd) Ramday was behind Nawaz Sharif’s victory speech to influence ROs. Khan said for Justice (retd) Ramday’s role his sons were rewarded. He said Mustafa Ramday was appointed Advocate General while Asad Ramday was the MNA from Toba Tek Singh. A niece of Justice (retd) Ramday was elected on a reserved seat, he added.
