Justice Shakir nominated acting Chief Election Commissioner

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has nominated Justice Shakirullah Jan as acting Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).

Supreme Court has named Justice Shakirullah Jan under article 217 of the constitution. Current CEC Hamid Ali Mirza will retire on March 23, 2012.

Chief Justice said that nomination of Acting CEC would be automatically removed after appointment of new Chief Election Commissioner.
