KARACHI: Sindh Local Government Minister Agha Siraj Durrani on Wednesday announced formation of a six-member committee comprising members of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Pakistan Muslim League (F) to decide the working of new local government system in Sindh.
The committee members include three from PPP, two from MQM and one member was include from the PML (F).
He said this during a press conference at PPP Media Cell after a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah at CM House.
Durrani said that if the constitution permits then the general elections can be postponed up to a year, adding that they would try to conduct local elections before the general elections.
He said that they were bringing a new system while all coalition partners have been taken on board regarding the issue. He said that they were seeking betterment in the current local system until a new system replaces it.
He said that they were in contact with MQM, adding that during the last meeting Deputy Parliamentary Leader MQM Syed Sardar Ahmed had asked for a week's time.
He said that without the consent of allies, no system of local government would be implemented in Sindh. He said that policy of reconciliation would give another five years to PPP.
Talking about the issue of Mahajir province, Local Government Minister Sindh said that these people are unaware of the history of Sindh, adding that such happenings must be stopped.
He said that Karachi was a cosmopolitan city where people of all races live peacefully, adding that such element would be resisted by the people of Sindh. He said that conspiracies against the PPP have been knitted against PPP ever since it came into the office.
He further said that KESC does not believe in humanity and stated load shedding should not be conducted on Pumping Station on humanitarian basis by the power utility. (PPI)
