LAHORE: Jamat-e-Islami Amir, Syed Munawar Hassan on Sunday said that the government had failed in putting a check on hoarding and profiteering in Ramzan, adding the skyrocketing prices have broken the back of masses already suffering from poverty.

Talking to different delegations visiting Mansoora, the JI Amir said now a hope can only be attached to the Chief Justice who can take suo moto notice for protecting the common man.

He regretted that the worst kind of inflation had made it impossible for the poor to arrange for Sehri or Iftar and that the people are being fooled by the mention of so-called of price control committees and 'Sasta Bazar'.

Munawar Hassan said the rulers make the bag of Atta cheaper by Rs10 and squander millions of rupees on their personal promotion.

He urged the Supreme Court to take a suo moto of the situation on emergency basis and put a leash on those who are looting the poor people with both hands.

He also asked the Supreme Court to chalk out a price-list and make the 'ineligibility-facing' incumbent government to implement the same.
