KARACHI: At least one person was injured in a hand grenade attack on a departmental store here in Karachi, Geo News reported.

According to sources, the attackers, who were two in number came along riding a bike and hurled the grenade at the main entrance of the one of the chains of an international superstore located in the Gulshan-e-Iqbal area of the metropolis.

Reportedly, the attack on the international supermarket near NIPA Chowrangi, came after the extortionists had threatened the traders in the area with dire consequences if they did not submit to their exactions.

Police also suspect blackmailers could be behind the attack as they had been actively sending receipt slips to the shopkeepers demanding large amounts of money.

The injured was shifted to hospital.

Moreover, two vehicles parked outside the store were also damaged in the wake of the attack.

Investigation has been launched into the incident.

More details are awaited.
