Dearth of potable water leads to disease outbreak in Balochistan

JAFARABAD: The flood-affected people of Balochistan are fighting yet another menace after flooding that is unavailability of clean drinking water, Geo News reported Saturday.

Residents of Jafarabad, Naseerabad and other areas, who were hit by the floods, are forced to drink polluted flood water due to the shortage of food and clean drinking water in the affected area.

Thousands of people who were displaced after the monsoon rains and flooding wreaked havoc in the province have taken refuge at the National Highway, leaving them with no option but to drink the accumulated rain water.

Consequently, the victims especially women and children have contracted different waterborne diseases.

On the other hand, schools in the worst affected areas of Jafarabad, Naseerabad, Jhal Magsi, Kachhi and Sibbi districts will remain closed following the announcement made by the provincial education minister.

The flooding caused by the rainwater coming down from the mountainous region inundated 500 villages of many districts in Balochistan and forced the residents to take refuge under open sky.

Seventy percent residential areas of southern Punjab’s districts of Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur are still submerged in the floodwater.
