NA, PA polls likely on same day

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Law, Farooq H Naek Tuesday said efforts are afoot to hold general elections for National and Provincial assemblies on the same day, hoping the provincial chief ministers would cooperate with the Federal government in this regard.

Talking to media persons following his meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner here, Farooq Naek said the elections will be transparent and held as per schedule. However, he added that fixing of the date for polls is the President's prerogative.

He said it normally takes 50 days for the election process to complete following the announcement thereof.

Farooq H Naek also told the reporters that a method of postal ballot was being discussed for overseas Pakistanis. As soon as there is consensus amendment will be made in the relevant law, he added.
