ISLAMABAD: Unavailability of oil and gas and shortage of water has suddenly increased the shortfall of electricity to 5000 mega watts due to which not only the industries are facing 12 hours load shedding but people are also suffering from long hours of unannounced load shedding in homes.

Considering the situation of electricity in the country secretary water and power Nargis Sethi has instructed to remove daily production and demand and supply statistics of electricity from the official website. Information on the shortfall and load shedding schedules has also been removed from the website.

Electricity demand is 13000 mega watts where as the day time production has gone down to 8000 mega watts.

PEPCO officials claim they are trying to revive production at power houses shut due to unavailability of oil and gas to cover the shortfall.

Officials say every year from 10 December to 25 February such a situation arises because of lack of water however the real problem seems to be the unavailability of funds.
