KARACHI: Deployment of the army and paramilitary troops for door-to-door verification of voters in Karachi would begin today (Wednesday), Geo News reported.

According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Defence, the army would provide security to the Election Commission staff during the verification process.

Sources in the Defence Ministry said that the army and paramilitary Rangers and Frontier Corps would be deployed from Wednesday.

The sources said that the Ministry of Interior was asked to send a formal request to the Ministry of Defence for the deployment of troops.

The door-to-door verification of voters was ordered by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
