KARACHI: Political activists staged protests in different areas of Karachi among various areas of Sindh and resorted to heavy aerial firing here on Tuesday after the Supreme Court of Pakistan ordered arrest of Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf and other accused in rental power plants corruption case.
Protests, demos and aerial firing incidents were reported from Landhi, Qaidabad, Malir, Dalmia, Gulstan-e-Johar, Sahrab Goth, Abul Hassan Isfahani Road, Orangi, Pakistan Chowk, Maripur Road and Keamari areas, which created big traffic jams, creating a lot of problems for motorists and commuters.
Shops and markets in the affected areas went closed and public transport got suspended.
In Hyderabad, Different areas echoed with intense aerial firing, which created panic amongst citizens. Later, all major markets were closed down.
Enraged activists held protest demos in different areas and burnt tires on roads. Police and law enforcers were present; however, they did not take any action.
In Jacobabad, intense aerial firing created panic in the town. Armed men riding motorcycles compelled shopkeepers to close down their businesses.
In Larkana, The protestors restored to areal firing, forcing shopkeepers to close markets. Later, the protestors staged a sit-in near Jinnah Bagh and blocked the road. Heavy contingent of police was also present.
In Naudero, The activists led by Nisar Bhutto, Khalid Memon, Oshaq Dhoki, Khadim Bhutto and others raised slogans.
They protesters forced shopkeepers to close their businesses.
The protesting PPP workers later went to Shahnawaz Bhutto railway station and forced Khushal Khan Khattak Express train to stop. After two hours they allowed the train to leave for Karachi.
The passengers included men, women and their children suffered problems due to cold weather and harassment.
