Washington impartial regarding Qadri’s protest : US

WASHINGTON: US State Department Tuesday night said the Washington was impartial as far as Tehrik Minhaj-ul-Quran leader, Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri’s “long march” was concerned, Geo News reported.

“We are in touch with Pakistani authorities in this regard”, said State Dept spokesperson Victoria Nuland during a press briefing.

Commenting on Supreme Court of Pakistan’s orders to arrest sitting Prime Minister, Raja Pervez Ashfraf, in rental power corruption case, Nuland stressed this matter was utterly internal to Pakistan.

“Obama administration has always championed the democratically elected government in Pakistan. We wish it squares off this issue in the light of constitution”, said Nuland.

To a question about whether Qadri was doing the right thing by sitting in before the Parliament in Pakistan with thousands of his supporters, Nuland, without mincing words, said democratically everyone should be allowed to reserve the right to protest.

"A government must protect its people’s right to protest" said she wrapping up her press talk.
