KARACHI: DG Rangers Sindh Major General Rizwan Akhtar has taken notice of the killing of taxi driver by paramilitary personnel, Geo News reported.
Rangers spokesman said the DG, while taking notice of the incident, has suspended Company Commander. The authorities concerned have taken all the four personnel into custody. He has also ordered strict action against the Rangers personnel involved in the incident.
Meanwhile, police have registered case against Rangers who opened fire on the taxi driver. The case was lodged on the complaint of deceased’s wife.
It may be noted here that a Ranger opened fire on a taxi, killing its driver in the remits of Gulistan-e-Jauhar police station on Tuesday.
According to police sources, a temporary picket of Rangers personnel signaled a taxi to stop but the driver failed to do so. The Ranger as a result, opened fire on the taxi, killing its driver on the spot. However, the 18 month old son of the taxi driver who was also with him remained unhurt.
This infuriated the local residents of the area who staged their protest in front of Gulistan-e-Jauhar police station, demanding arrest of the Ranger who fired at the taxi.
According to an initial report, the man of the paramilitary force was forced to open fire as the taxi did not stop despite their signal to do so.
