ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, while hearing the suo moto case of the killing of a taxi driver by a Rangers man in Karachi, remarked that it was a remorseful incident, Geo News reported Friday.
CJ Iftikhar Chaudhry took notice of the incident following the note by the Supreme Court Registrar, and a three-member bench comprising of the Chief Justice, Justice Jawwad S Khawaja and Justice Sh. Azmat Saeed was hearing the case today.
During the hearing, the CJ remarked that the killing of Sarfaraz Shah was of similar nature when Rangers recklessly shot the youth and left him to die.
The Attorney General told the bench that Director General of Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) Major General Rizwan Akhtar will arrive at the court shortly, therefore, the hearing was deferred for a short interval.
The chief justice expressed dissatisfaction over the FIR registered into the murder and remarked that from day one efforts were being made to spoil the case.
He said that the FIR was registered on behalf of the widow despite the fact that she was not present at the crime scene.
The CJ directed the Attorney General to discuss the issue with high officials so that a charge sheet could be presented soon. The hearing was adjourned till July 26.
The DG Rangers (Sindh) had earlier also taken notice of the incident and suspended the Company Commander, while giving orders for strict action against the culprit involved.
Taxi driver Murad Ali was shot by the Rangers man Ghulam Rasool on Tuesday in Gulistan-e-Johar area of Karachi when he did not stop his vehicle after being signaled to do so by the security personnel.
A local court in Karachi sent the Rangers soldier involved in killing of the taxi driver on physical remand till July 22.
Police produced the accused before the judicial magistrate and sought 10-day remand. However, the judge remanded the accused in police custody till July 22.
