KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader, Dr Farooq Sattar Wednesday stressed that litigations should not be allowed to become the reason for unnecessary delays in the local bodies’ elections.
“We have submitted a petition with the Supreme Court against the Sindh Local Government Act, but we don’t want delays in the holding of local bodies’ polls,” he said while interacting with media persons here.
He noted that the proposed new system was not giving due authority to the mayor.
Dr. Sattar urged the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to remove as expeditiously as possible the doubts in connection with the elections.
To a question, he said that top priority would be assigned to health, cleanliness and education while a mass transit system would be introduced to resolve the public transport issues of the metropolis.
