LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Lahore Women Wing’s Neelum Ashraf’s son was shot dead in his car under mysterious circumstances near Kamahan village in Nishtar Colony police limits Saturday.
The victim’s family has termed the incident a murder while police in its initial investigations have claimed that the youth has committed suicide, but later made two arrests.
The victim was identified as Nauman Ashraf advocate, a resident of 23-B Block, Phase-V, Defence Housing Authority. He was doing business of real estate along with his friend Waris, resident of Leel village situated near Ring Road.
On the day of the incident, the victim left his house to meet his partner Waris. As he returned from the dera of Waris, locals heard a bullet shot at around 07:00 PM. As they reached near the car, they found Nauman dead.
The victim had received a bullet injury at the back of his head. On being informed, police reached the scene and collected evidence. Police also recorded statements of eyewitnesses. The victim was rushed to National Hospital Defence where he was pronounced 'already dead.'
Later, the body was removed to the morgue for autopsy. Police also took three persons Waris, his brother Amanat and father Abdul Rasheed into custody for interrogation.
However, Model Town SP Tariq Aziz has claimed that the circumstantial evidences implied that Nauman had committed suicide, as a pistol was also recovered from the car close to his body. He further said police are also getting phone calls record of the victim to unearth the mystery.
The family of the deceased refuted the police claim, saying that someone has killed Nauman from the back. There were also reports of his killing on offering resistance to robbers during a robbery bid. However, it was not ascertained till the filing of this report.
Police are investigating the incident keeping in view all aspects. A case was registered against two persons, including Waris, on the complaint of the vicim’s uncle.
Nauman’s marriage was scheduled to be held on February 14, 2014, and the family was busy in the preparation of his wedding ceremony. He has been survived by his mother, a brother and a sister. The victim’s father had died some seven years back.
Police have removed the body to morgue for autopsy and taken three suspects into custody for interrogation.
