KARACHI: A survey by Geo News team has revealed that many government-run schools in Karachi face illegal occupation of mafias.

These mafias have not only occupied the school premises but converted them into retail shops, factories or razed the school buildings and built new residential apartments. The land of these schools is worth billions of rupees.

The Provincial Deparment of Education colluded with the land grabbers and put many schools under the control of illegal occupiers.

When the Geo News team visited various government schools in the metropolis it discovered that Maqbool Aam Primary School in Bahadurabad area had been converted into a ‘tandoor’.

Asif Boys Primary School and Akhtar Girls Secondary School in Drig Road Green Town have been turned into factories.

Half of the premises of Government Grammar Secondary School in Liaquatabad Area is being used as residence. The school management said that they had sent many letters to Sindh Education Minister Nisar Khuhro and Education Department but to no avail.
