ISLAMABAD: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has postponed its emergency party workers meeting originally scheduled for Wednesday. The emergency meeting was called after party chief Altaf Hussain summoned resignations from all elected representatives of the party in the assemblies.
The MQM chief summoned resignations from party legislators after he issued a statement terming the assemblies worthless because all they were delivering was lip service and not solutions to problems.
Hussain added that under such circumstances MQM legislators could no longer remain members of the National Assembly, the Senate nor the Provincial Assemblies.
In his statement, Altaf Hussain added that he will decide whether the rabita committee will remain intact or will be dissolved.
The statement further stated, that Hussain would see the performance of the National Assembly, Senate and provincial assemblies; if they continued to work as they have been, all party members resignations would be submitted.
Following their party chief’s call, a massive crowd gathered at the Lal Qilla ground to hear Hussain. It is important to note that on Hussain’s call, all legislators of the party promptly submitted their resignations.
Sources suggest that the emergency session was likely to see many important decisions being made. However after the session was postponed Altaf Hussain said he regretted if any difficulty was faced by workers and supporters who had gathered for the emergency meeting.
