THARPARKAR: The drought in Tharparkar claimed the lives of two more children, raising the death toll to 29 in a month’s time.
Two children including a one-year old infant lost their lives due to malnutrition in Tehsil Hospital Chahcharo and Mithi Civil Hospital. During the past one month, 29 children have so far died due to malnutrition in Tharparkar.
The situation in drought-hit Thar is still grim as there has been no rainfall for the third consecutive year.
Earlier, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif expressed serious concern over the situation in Thar, instructing high-rank National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) team to reach Thar.
The team has been tasked to present a detailed report on the death toll and damage assessment in drought-hit Tharparkar to the premier.
