KARACHI: People continue to throng to the Driving License office even on a Sunday which would normally be a holiday but in light of the Traffic Police’s drive against unlicensed drivers the offices have started operating 7-days a week.

Sunday had been designated for lady drivers and old-age drivers wishing to get their driving licenses made, but since a large number of the general public also arrived at the office they are also being entertained.

Authorities told Geo News, that the decision to entertain the general public was taken because there are separate exclusive counters set up for ladies and old-age drivers, therefore the practice will not hinder the process for them.

According to sources, the driving license branch has been issuing 350-400 forms to the general public but this number rose to 500 on Sunday. To facilitate the public additional staff and counters have been set up to provide services at the office.

However the online facility that was extended to the public is down and those license holders who received their licenses from the Nazimabad license branch cannot be issued duplicate learner or regular driving licenses.

At the time this drive was launched the authorities had claimed they will be issuing 5,000 licenses per day, however that target has not been achieved as yet.

If data from all three license offices is calculated the maximum number of licenses being issued is 2,500 and if the offices continue to work at this rate it is not possible for the estimated number of license holders calculated by the Traffic Police to be issued driving licenses.
