The much-awaited February 8 general elections will witness eligible voters deciding the fate of Pakistan, the world's fifth-largest democracy. In NA-246 Karachi West III constituency, there are 23 candidates who will contest for the seat of the National Assembly, the Parliament’s lower house that decides who will be the country’s prime minister. All mainstream political parties have their candidates prepared for the big conquest in the constituency with Jamaat-e-Islami’s Hafiz Naeem Ur Rehman against Syed Amin Ul Haq of the Muttahidda Quami Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), among others. at least 15 independent candidates are also contesting to garb this seat in NA. In 2018, three different constituencies — NA-249 Karachi West-II, NA-251 Karachi West-IV and NA-252 Karachi West-V — fell under what is now NA-246. In NA-249, PTI candidate Muhammad Faisal Vawda was up against 29 other candidates including PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif and 18 independents, and won the seat with 35,349 votes, from which he resigned to become a senator on March 3, 2021. The seat saw a by-election on April 29, 2021 during which PPPP candidate Abdul Qadir Mandokhel was victorious. In NA 251, Syed Amin Ul Haque of MQM-P won the seat with 56888 votes, while in NA-252 PTI’s Aftab Jehangir won by 21065 votes.
