Pakistan is going to enter the nationwide election phase — scheduled for February 8, with a record number of 128 million eligible voters to cast the ballot. The NA-25 Nowshera-I was earlier “Khyber-II” prior to the new delimitations notified by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in accordance with the 2023 digital census data. Overall, 20 candidates including some political bigwigs are going to see each other’s electoral strengthen in the 2024 ballot race in this constituency. The candidates include the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) backed independent candidate Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Faisal Karim Kundi, the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) supremo Maulana Fazlur Rehman, PTI-P’s Syed Jawad Asghar Shah, Jamaat-e-Islami’s Muhammad Yousaf Khan, and others. In the 2018 general polls, the Imran-founded PTI leader Muhammad Iqbal Khan won the seat, however, he later stepped down from the seat following mass resignations from the party’s NA lawmakers in April.
