The general elections are set to be staged on February 8 after much ado and the people eligible to cast the ballot will vote to decide the future of the world’s fifth-largest democracy. In NA-6 Lower Dir-I constituency, there are more than 10 different candidates who will contest for the seat of the National Assembly, the house which votes for the prime minister. All major political parties have fielded their candidates in this constituency, with a party head also contesting the election from here. Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Siraj Ul Haq, PML-N’s Rooh Ullah Khan, PPP’s Muhammad Hanif Khan, ANP’s Bahadar Khan, JUI’s Muhammad Sher Khan, and PTI-backed Muhammad Bashir Khan are contesting the polls from NA-6, besides independent candidates. In 2018, Mehboob Shah of the PTI won from this constituency, bagging 63,717 votes, but since the PTI is contesting without a symbol and is virtually dismantled, it will be hard for the party to secure votes.
