ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has postponed the Local Government (LG) polls scheduled for Thursday in district Sanghar and some union councils of Badin citing law and order situation.
According to ECP sources, local bodies elections in other districts of Sindh will be held as per schedule on Thursday (December 17).
The decision comes after Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) activists clashed yesterday, killing at least four people including official guards of a PPP MPA.
At least six people also received bullet wounds after the two sides resorted to open gunfire at each other when their election rallies merged at Rehmani Chowk area of Sanghar.
The local bodies polls in Sanghar were rescheduled for December 17 after the killing of at least 11 people in Khairpur district during the first phase of elections.
The new date of LG polls in district Sanghar and some UCs of Badin will be announced later.
