PESHAWAR: Following the brazen early morning attack by terrorists at the Bacha Khan University in Charsadda that left 20 dead, Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) wing of the Pakistan Army briefed journalists on the attack and the counter terrorism operation launched in response to the attack.
DG ISPR Lt. General Asim Bajwa held a press briefing in Peshawar where he told journalists that 18 students and 2 members of staff were killed in the terrorist attack while 11 people were injured.
He made it clear that the terrorists cannot even put a dent in the resolve of the nation which has taken a stand against terrorism.
He added that together Pakistan’s armed forces and the citizens of Pakistan will eliminate terrorism from the country.
All law enforcement agencies and the Pakistan Army are working round the clock to make sure that the successes secured are not lost.
He termed such attacks on soft targets as evidence of the frustration that the terrorists are facing.
He concluded the briefing stating that Pakistan together with friendly countries with whom intelligence is shared, these terrorists will be eliminated.
Responding to questions regarding details of the terrorists Bajwa said that there were a total of four terrorists that had breached the university campus.
The terrorists had two mobile phones, and someone kept calling one of the mobile phones after the terrorist had been killed, Bajwa told journalists.
“We are in hold of information, confirming who the terrorists were and where they were operating from,” he said, adding, more clues are being gathered from the seized mobile phones.
Responding to a question regarding whether the terrorists were using local or international mobile SIMS, the DG responded that it is too early to reveal whether they were using local or foreign mobile sims, but in the coming days the details may be shared.
The DG did however say that a breakthrough has been achieved in identifying the terrorists, adding operations have been launched in surrounding areas on the basis of intelligence collected after the university attack.
