SC orders re-election in NA-153 Multan

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Thursday upheld an earlier verdict by and election tribunal and ordered re-election in the National Assembly’s NA-153 constituency in Multan.

A three-judge bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan dismissed a plea by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)’s Dewan Ashiq Bukhari against the earlier decision of the tribunal.

Devan Ashiq was elected MNA on PML-N ticket and had secured more than 90,000 votes in general elections 2013.

Election Tribunal had declared the 2013 election void and ordered re-polling in the constituency on a plea by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) candidate Rana Qasim, who had alleged that his opponent possessed a fake educational degree and had failed to declare his financial assets.

Dewan Bukhari had moved the Supreme Court against the tribunal’s verdict.
