CHARSADDA: The Bacha Khan University in Charsadda reopened on Monday, four days after a terrorist attack that silenced 21 lives, including students, a professor, and security guards leaving more than 30 injured – however later in the day it was announced that the university will remain closed indefinitely.
The university spokesman cited harsh weather conditions, repair and cleaning work for the closure. The spokesman added that the decision was taken at a meeting of faculty members that was chaired by the university’s vice chancellor.
It was also decided that the university should remain closed until a police check-post is setup on campus and teachers are provided licensed weapons.
Earlier on Sunday, Vice-Chancellor of the Bacha Khan University Dr Fazal-ur-Rahim Marwat said the university would reopen for staff on Monday and that classes will resume shortly.
A public relations officer for the varsity said that a meeting of all departmental heads would take place today where they will decide when to resume classes.
A condolence meeting was held at the main auditorium of the university where teachers, students and other staff offered prayers for the departed souls and those injured in the attack. Teachers and staff recited the Holy Quran for the victims.
Four terrorists had stormed the campus of the Bacha Khan University in Charsadda on Wednesday, killing 21 people, mostly students at a boys’ hostel. A teacher, a librarian and other staff members were also among those martyred.
