RAWALPINDI: Funeral prayers of Lieutenant General (R) Sahibzada Yaqoob Khan were offered at the Army graveyard in Rawalpindi on Tuesday.
The Funeral prayers were attended by Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif as well as by a large number of high ranking civil and military officials. A large number of people from all walks of life also attended the funeral prayers.
Sahibzada Yaqoob Khan, 95, passed away late on Monday night.
As a lieutenant general, Khan had served as chief of the general staff, governor of then East Pakistan and later as the chief of the eastern command and martial law administrator before his retirement.
Later he served as Pakistan's ambassador to the US under the Zulfikar Ali Bhutto's government and later as foreign minister in Gen Ziaul Haq’s regime.
He also served as caretaker foreign minister in 1996.
