Alleged suicide bomber blows himself up in Jhelum

JHELUM: A terrorism bid was foiled Thursday when an alleged suicide bomber detonated his explosives after police challenged him in an encounter near Domeli Mor area of Jhelum on Thursday, police said.

On a tip-off, the police and bomb disposal squad reached the site where the suspect was installing explosives on a railway track. After seeing the police, the suspect started firing at the police and attempted to flee. The police retaliated and cornered the terrorist who blew up his explosives.

Police cordoned off the area and launched an operation.

Railway traffic on the track remained suspended for a brief period. The identity of the terrorist could not be ascertained immediately.
