DHAKA: Bangladesh’s Sabbir Rahman scored 80 runs off 55 balls before Al-Amin Hossain grabbed three wickets to help their side claim an easy 23 run win over Sri Lanka in Asia Cup T20 here on Sunday.

Batting first after winning the toss, Bangladesh scored 147-7 leaving a challenging 148 run target for Sri Lanka.

Sabbir remained top scorer hitting 10 fours and 3 sixes. Shakib Al Hasan with 32 and Mahmudullah 23 were other notable contributors to the team total.

Dushmantha Chameera grabbed 3 wickets while captain Angelo Mathews and Kulasekara shared a wicket each for Sri Lanka.

Later, Bangladeshi bowlers and fielders successfully defended the total and claimed 8 Sri Lankan wickets along the way. Besides Al-Amin’s three wickets Shakib took 2 and Mustafizur, Mortaza and Mahmudullah shared a wicket each.

Sri Lanka made one change as captain Lasith Malinga ruled out with a knee injury. Thisara Perera replaced him. Angelo Mathews led the side in the absence of Malinga.

Bangladesh kept an unchanged team from the 51-run victory against United Arab Emirates.

Sri Lanka also made a good start to the Asia Cup, beating UAE by 14 runs.
