High treason case: Special court summons Musharraf to record statement on March 31

ISLAMABAD: A special court in Islamabad hearing a high treason case against Gen (R) Pervez Musharraf has summoned the former military dictator on March 31 to record his statement.

Musharraf's lawyer informed the court that his client was unwell and admitted in the hospital. He said that Musharraf was on bail and that he is exempted from appearing in hearing.

The court had exempted the former military general from appearance after framing of charges, said Musharraf's lawyer.

During the hearing today, the prosecution lawyer Akram Sheikh objected to removing Musharraf's name fromt he Exit Control List (ECL). He said that the case should be heard on a daily basis. There should be sound reasons for the court to postpone hearing, he said.

The court summoned Musharraf to record his statement on March 31 and subsequently adjourned the hearing.
