Sirajul Haq announces protest in Lahore against corruption

LAHORE: Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Sirajul Haq on Saturday announced to stage a protest sit-in on April 8 in Lahore against the scourge of corruption.

Addressing a programme here at Mansoora, Sirajul Haq warned that those who engaged in corrupt activities should ask for the Almighty’s forgiveness. “They will not be allowed to escape accountability,” he added.

He said if the Parliament turned a deaf ear to his party’s calls, some other courses of action within the parameters of the Constitution would have to be adopted.

The JI Amir said return of plundered wealth from the overseas banks can translate into the provision of employment to 600 million youths of the country. He regretted that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) instead of taking steps to bring this money back, uses the option of plea bargain which, he added, is tantamount to hoodwinking the nation.

He said those who tried to cripple the nation are today present in the Parliament, adding, Pakistan Muslim League-N and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) try to cover up each other’s wrongdoings. “The nation should boycott the corrupt elements,” he asserted.

Sirajul Haq said it is fine as long as the former Karachi mayor Mustafa Kamal is holding only a flag. ‘But, in case there is a stick behind this flag, then it should prompt serious thinking,” he added.

The JI Amir also let out vociferous slogans ‘Satatus Quo Band Karo’ (stop the status quo).
