LAHORE: Lawyers’ bodies observed a black day across the country on Monday against ‘police torture’ and rejected the committee proposed by the Chief Justice.
In Lahore, protesting lawyers took out a rally from Aiwan-e-Adl to PMG Chowk defying Section-144 imposed by the authorities in the city. Former Supreme Court Bar Association President Ali Ahmed Kurd, Asma Jehangir and other lawyers leaders also participated in the rally.
General Secretary Supreme Court Bar, Raja Zulqarnain called for immediate acceptance of resignations tendered by the lawyers, adding, the lawyers do not accept any committee.
He said some forces want to create rift in lawyers’ fraternity.
Ali Ahmed Kurd on the occasion said: “Musharraf was the biggest and cruelest dictator but even he did not dare to pick a fight with lawyers.”
He said lawyers have a complaint with the Lahore Chief Justice for what they are getting in return against the sacrifices they had rendered.
