PPP senator Saeed Ghani meets Dr Asim with a message from Zardari

KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party leader Senator Saeed Ghani held a special meeting with under-trial former petroleum minister Dr Asim Hussain at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).

Sources said that the meeting held at the special ward of the hospital spanned over one and a half hour.

Sources added that Ghani came with some good news from the PPP co-chairman and former Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari. Dr Asim complained to Ghani about the lack of support from the PPP leadership.

Last week, Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal also held a secret meeting with Dr Asim Hussain at JPMC and conveyed a special message of former president Asif Ali Zardari to him.

The minister told Dr Asim that Zardari had asked him to stay calm and directed him to stay in constant touch with senior Pakistan Peoples’ Party leaders. All legal matters pertaining to his release will be resolved soon.

Dr Asim was shifted to a heavily guarded JPMC room after a court order in January.

Zardari and Dr Asim are childhood friends. In an exclusive interview with Geo News Zardari had said, “I called him ‘hare’. I was the one who motivated him to leave Nazimabad and shift to Defence. His arrest is only a tactic to pressurize the PPP.”

Dr Asim is being tried for facilitating terrorists and corruption charges.
