PESHAWAR: The funeral prayers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s adviser to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister Sardar Soran Singh were offered today at his hometown of Pir Baba. He was gunned down a day ago in his native village in the Buner valley.
The funeral was attended by local PTI leaders and members of the minority community. CM KP Khattak forwarded his condolence to the deceased’s family and stated that orders have been given to arrest the culprits within 24 hours. Police arrested three suspects and recovered weapons from them on Saturday.
Soran Singh was a leading figure in Pakistan´s tiny Sikh community and had joined cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan´s party PTI in 2012. Imran Khan in a statement described Singh as a patriotic Pakistani and loyal party worker.
Singh also worked as a journalist. He had earlier been a member of Jamat-e-Islami. Sikhs make up less than 1 percent of Pakistan´s 190 million people. Many see Pakistan as the place where their religion began.
