SARGODHA: At least two infants died in District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) on Monday due to an ongoing strike announced by young doctors.
The doctors have been on strike for the last three days, after goons of a Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz parliamentarian vandalized the emergency ward of the hospital and beat up a doctor.
All out-patient departments remained closed, as young doctors pressurized the government to register an FIR against the parliamentarian.
According to hospital sources, senior doctors and paramedical staff were engaged with other health emergencies while abandoning the child and nursery ward which resulted in the death of two infants.
Meanwhile, the Punjab government sprung to action following the strike. The health ministry issued directives to enforce the one patient, one attendant rule. “All patients in the emergency ward should be accompanied by only one attendant. Everyone else should stay in the waiting area,” a statement released said.
