ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Army Chief General Raheel Sharif inquired after the health of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during a one-on-one meeting ahead of a high-level security meeting here on Tuesday.
Highly-placed sources told Geo News that matters relating to national security were discussed during the meeting, in which the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) reportedly emphasized on integrated efforts to improve the law and order situation of the country.
Gen Raheel also inquired on the prime minister’s health, said the sources, adding that PM Nawaz apprised the army chief of his recent medical checkup in London.
Later, DG Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), Chief Minister Punjab, Federal Interior Minister and Federal Finance Minister joined the meeting that, according to the sources, lasted for 45 minutes.
Following the informal meeting, a high-level security meeting was chaired by the prime minister and attended by the mentioned officials.
The military officials briefed the meeting about ongoing Zarb-e-Azb offensive against terrorists in Waziristan tribal area and targeted actions in urban areas of Punjab and in Karachi. The meeting agreed on an early and honourable repatriation of the temporary displaced persons (TDPs).
Sources added that the meeting underlined the importance of expediting effective efforts to improve the national security also.
