RAWALPINDI: An expo center and economic zone will be set up in Rawalpindi to open new avenues of trade and attract the foreign investors to invest in the country.
This was stated by President, Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI), Syed Ali Raza Shah while addressing a press conference here on Monday.
He said that Pakistan has been bestowed with many resources and it has a potential to boost the trade at the international level.
"We are hopeful that the exports and imports will get boost after the establishment of expo center and economic zone," he added. Ali Raza said that recent floods have destroyed infrastructure and crops in various parts of the country`while killing thousands and leaving millions homeless.
He said there was a great need to boost the trade and industry to support the destroyed economy of the country, adding, the industrial revival will bring prosperity and progress and address various problems faced with the nation. Presently, the country is facing energy crisis which badly affecting the industry, he said and suggested that wind energy and hydro energy projects are more viable to meet the energy challenge.
The RCCI President also called upon the concerned authorities to overhaul the present tax collection system as the new tax system will further inflict damage the economy.
To a question, he said that Ghakkar plaza victims will be compensated and assured RCCI will help the traders’ community in this regard on priority basis.
Senior Vice President, Mian Muhammad Atique, Vice President Dr.Shumail Dawood, former District Nazim Tariq Kayani, former President RCCI, Kashif Shabir and the traders’ representatives were also present.
