LAHORE: Traders and industrialists staged a protest on Monday against the government’s proposal to convert the Kahna Kacha Industrial area into a residential society.
The protesters blocked the Ferozpur Road resulting in a traffic jam. Women, children and the elderly suffered in the sweltering heat as the protesters burnt tires and raised slogans.
The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has opposed the conversion of Kahna Kacha Industrial area into a residential society and said it would deprive millions of people of their jobs.
Earlier this week, LCCI President Sheikh Muhammad Arshad had met a delegation of Kahna Kacha Industrial Estate at the LCCI.
He had urged the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) to shelve the plan of sacrificing the Kahna Kacha Industrial Estate for the sake of a residential scheme as it would result in dire consequences.
