FAISALABAD: A tea vendor was allegedly tortured to death by police after he refused to serve tea free of cost.
The incident of alleged police torture occurred in Gulberg area.
A case could not be reportedly registered of the incident. The relatives protested the delay in post mortem of the deceased tea vendor.
According to victim Fayyaz’s brother, some police personnel of Gulberg police station often used to take tea free of cost. On Saturday night, Fayyaz refused to give tea free and took charges of it.
The policemen threatened of dire consequences after paying the tea bill. They severely tortured Fayyaz when he was returning home after shutting down his business.
Fayyaz’s brother has alleged that his sibling died of police torture.
Meanwhile, SHO Gulberg police station Shahid Waheed has rejected police torture claims, saying Fayyaz was a drug addict. The local people tortured him when he entered a house after consuming drugs, the police officer claimed.
He succumbed to injuries while being shifted to hospital by police.
City Police Officer Faisalabad Afzaal Kosar has taken notice of the incident and ordered an inquiry into it.
