KARACHI: Police sprung to action a day after Chief Justice Sindh High Court Sajjad Ali Shah's son Owais Ali Shah went missing.
The task of recovering Owais has been handed to Special Security Unit (SSU). Police has so far recorded statements of two eye witnesses.
According to eye witnesses’ accounts, Owais was taken away by men in white shalwar qameez. They said he resisted kidnapping and fought with the alleged abductors.
Police has collected evidence through CCTV footage. The kidnappers were last seen going towards Baloch Colony from Shaheed-e-Millat Road, police said.
Police has carried out search operations in various parts of the city. Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah late on Monday ordered the concerned authorities to block the whole city to recover the son of Sindh High Court's Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, who had gone missing since afternoon.
CJ SHC’s son Owais Ali Shah went for shopping at a shopping mall in Clifton earlier in the day, and has not been heard from since. His car has however been recovered from outside the shopping mall.
DG Rangers Sindh Maj General Bilal Akbar visited the supermarket where Owais was kidnapped from.
The chief minister has ordered to set up check points across the city to keep all movement at check. He has asked the officials to leave no stones unturned in searching for the missing.
Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan has also taken notice of the disappearance and ordered the officials concerned to utilise all resources in recovering Owais Ali Shah.
Forensic experts are inspecting the recovered car of Owais Ali Shah for likely finger prints of the abductors.
This is not the first high profile kidnapping in the country. In August 2011, slain governor Punjab's son Shahbaz Taseer was kidnapped from Lahore by the Taliban. He returned home after four years of torture in captivity in March this year.
Former Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani's son Ali Haider Gilani was kidnapped from an election rally in Multan in May 2013. He was rescued in an operation in Afghanistan by American forces in May this year.
