Music is said to transcend borders. That was proven right when artists from across the border expressed their grief at the death of renowned Qawwal Amjad Sabri.

"I'm extremely saddened to hear about the death of Amjad Sabri," said the acclaimed Indian singer Kavita Krishnamurthy while speaking to Geo news.

"A musician spends his life trying to spread the message of peace through his music and for such a man to meet a violent end is truly shocking," she added and prayed for his soul to rest in peace.

Youth sensation and powerhouse performer Alia Bhatt said that the news of Amjad Sabri's death was truly heartbreaking.

"It's sad when these things happen to an artist," she added.

Celebrated singer Sonu Nigam spoke of the time he spend performing with Sabri and also their shared near death experience.

"Amjad Sabri, tragic departure​! not just sang with me but escaped death with me and my family on 10 April 2004 from a bomb blast in Karachi. RIP"

Music composer Anu Malik's nephew Armaan Malik took to Twitter to convey his distress at Sabri's death.

"Tragic, Sabri bros took the qawwali to the west in the 70s," tweeted Ayushman khurrana

Singer Amit Trivedi also took to the microblogging website to speak of the Qawwal's death.

Actor Javed Jaafrey used the medium to extend his condolences to Amjad Sabri's family.
