KARACHI: Director General Rangers Sindh General Bilal has extended the Karachi Operation to other parts of Sindh.

"Criminal take kidnapped hostages to rural Sindh. The operation will target every criminal," DG Rangers said.

His official statement came on Friday. However, the paramilitary in the last few weeks had carried out search operations in various parts of Sindh.

Two days ago Rangers arrested a Pakistan People’s Party worker Asad Kharal from Larkana. He was accused of corruption worth millions of rupees. He was later set free by his supporters who fought the Rangers.

A few weeks back Rangers conducted a targeted operation in Hyderabad where they arrested three workers of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s zonal committee. Suhail Mashadi, Rafiq Ajmeri and Raheel Faheem were released after interrogation.

At Dhabeji, Thatta, Rangers carried out a raid where they arrested 10 people including workers of a political party from Water Board colony.

A shootout between Rangers and robbers occurred at Shikarpur. Two Rangers officials lost their lives in the attack.

A few months ago, Rangers conducted an operation in Shahdadpur over intelligence reports. MQM worker Waqqas Ali Shah’s alleged killer was arrested in the raid. Rangers claimed the alleged killer was also a worker of MQM.

The operation against criminal elements in Pakistan’s commercial hub was initiated back in September 2013 after the federal cabinet empowered Rangers to lead a targeted advance with the support of police. Since then Rangers have extended their powers every few months when they expire.
