Doctor infected with Congo virus dies in Karachi

KARACHI:  A doctor who was treating patients in Bahawalpur for the Congo virus passed away on Saturday at a local hospital.

Sagheer Ahmed was seeking treatment for the Congo virus.

Three other doctors are seeking treatment for the Congo virus at a private hospital on Stadium Road.

Livestock workers are at a risk to contracting the Congo Virus when they make contact with infectious blood and body fluids of animals.

It can transfer from one infected person to the other and may result in death.

Adviser to Chief Minister Punjab on Health Khwaja Salman Rafique has constituted a special team consisting of senior clinicians of Health Department after surfacing of Congo virus in Bahawalpur.  

The team would furnish its report after examining the situation. All contacts of Congo fever patients are being kept in quarantine. These people would remain under surveillance during the incubating period of Congo virus so as to control spread of the disease.
