Indian national level athlete drowns while taking 'selfie'

A female national level athlete fell in to a pond and died while trying to take a ‘selfie’ with friends in the Indian state of Madhya Pardesh.

The 20-year-old athlete, identified as Pooja Kumari, was trying to click a picture with a fellow athlete at Sports Authority of India club in Bhopal.

According to details, the athlete while posing all of a sudden lost her footing and slipped in a pond.

According to reports, two friends were accompanying her who also like Kumari did not know how to swim and sought help, but it turned out to be quite late.

The club’s staff tried to save her by pulling her out of the pond and shifting her to a hospital where doctors pronounced her dead.

Kumari had joined the local sports club three years ago and was also a winner of sub-junior national level gold in Delhi. She was on a break since three months due to an injury.
